2003 SEASON

In 2003 vines were pruned to a theoretical yield of 1.5 tons/acre. Canes fanned from spurs, retaining the candelabra shape for an additional year to bring the vineyard up slowly and to develop good cane positions for 2004 .

Nunes Vineyard terroir is unique. Buds burst March 2, three weeks ahead of  the prior year. Early flowering set fruit before Spring rains. By the first week of July, fruit was well into veraison and on smooth approach to landing in picking bins. The grapes hung well over 60 days on the vine during the all important berry engustment period when color, flavor and aroma are developed. Harvest began September 4th and continued through the 18th.

2003: Earlier season with more time on the vine. Small bunches and berries, huge color and flavor.
